Later that interest lead me into furniture making. That passion has continued my entire life and this blog will be about anything and everything to do with design, building, woodworking and life.Cyndyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10452459252419590478noreply@blogger.comBlogger2125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5488455015576050883.post-26775101071272686922018-06-13T16:36:00.001-07:002018-06-13T16:36:43.131-07:00<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
It's been too long since my last post. Life got in the way. Thought I would post some of my husband's recent projects. He's been using reclaimed wood on siding, cabins, micro-units and furniture. We even have our front door covered in old oak veneer. This fits California like a well worn glove.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 1.6em;">To make this all natural</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 1.6em;"> </span><span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 1.6em;">ecologically</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 1.6em;"> </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 1.6em;">friendly stain....</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
All you need is a plastic bucket.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
A packet of steel wool.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
A gallon of white vinegar.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z90HUMjYbec/U40NubL2e3I/AAAAAAAAA-Q/c5deMMj4mx0/s1600/stain_making.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z90HUMjYbec/U40NubL2e3I/AAAAAAAAA-Q/c5deMMj4mx0/s1600/stain_making.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
Step 1. Place steel wool (approx 6 pads) in bucket and add enough vinegar to cover it. Let sit overnight so it gets nice and dark. Stir occasionally.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
(Note: It's better to make more stain than you need. These materials are cheap so make enough. You don't want to run out of stain halfway through the project and have to wait for a new batch)<br /><br />When the color of the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">liquid</span> is brown you're ready to go...<br /><br />Below is inexpensive dog-eared cedar fencing, minus the dog-ears. We plan on staining this wood with the steel wool and vinegar stain.</div>
